Boswellia is a key ingredient in Joint Support by BLUESPRING

Osteoarthritis is a chronic condition that progressively degenerates the knee joint as people age. Boswellia serrata possesses favorable anti-inflammatory qualities, and has been shown to bring relief to painful arthritic conditions especially among the aging population, 50 and over. Boswellia can benefit those with arthritis!

The small Boswellia tree grows in hilly forests of India, and its acids are known to block leukotrienes synthesis— these are compounds that cause inflammation. For over 3,000 years the resin from Boswellia serrata has been used to treat inflammation, focusing especially on the goal of bringing relief to arthritis and joint pain. Indian researchers see Boswellia serrata as having healing properties much like aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) only without the potentially dangerous, long-term side effects.

Compounds in the Boswellia herb are believed to restrain increased inflammation and increase the joint's blood supply. A marked reduction in the pain caused from swelling in patients with rheumatoid arthritis was indicated in one clinical study. In only 14 to 30 days, patients reported that stiffness and inflammation that was associated with the joint movements was significantly less after taking the Boswellia herb. It is believed that the acids render an effective protection on connective tissues of the joint, thus restraining enzymes that collapse these tissues. The herb also relieves distressful inflammation and discomfort from multiple forms of arthritic conditions and provides natural joint pain relief. In another control group 178 rheumatoid arthritis patients (75 years old and upwards) were administered the herb. This was done for a period of a few months up to 5 years. All but 12 percent of the people saw marked improvement with no adverse side effects. This means that close to 90 percent of patients reported decreased tenderness, stiffness and swelling of the joints. The results were more than extremely positive – 90 percent is outstanding in any successful study.

In a placebo controlled double blind study at the Indira Gandhi Medical College in Nagpur, India, researchers found informative results about the effects of Boswellia serrata on osteoarthritis. The randomized trial was conducted by researchers to evaluate the effectiveness of Boswellia serrata extract (BSE), as well as to monitor its safety to apprise how well the control group tolerated the substance. The study was done on 30 people who had osteoarthritis in the knees. For a period of eight weeks half of the group received the active herb and the other half were administered the placebo. At the end of that time, the groups were given the opposing intervention for an additional eight-week segment.

Those in the control group who received the Boswellia serrata reported diminished swelling and knee pain, heightened flexibility of the knee. They also noted the ability to walk much farther distances. Overall, there was a marked improvement among those administered the Boswellia. Enough so the study confirmed Boswellia’s positive healing properties as being clinically significant. In summation, Boswellia is recommended for those suffering knee and joint pain from osteoarthritis. In addition, therapies for other types of arthritis are also given serious consideration for the therapy from Boswellia serrata.
