Simple Health Tips for Spondyloarthritis – Inflammatory Arthritis

Debra Murray

Spondyloarthritis is an inflammatory type of rheumatic arthritis that affects the joints in the spine. This condition can also affect the legs, soft tissues, eyes, and many internal organs. Although medications can be prescribed to block the inflammatory activity of certain proteins that increase inflammatory response, there are some over-the-counter and home remedies you can use to reduce pain and improve movement at home.

NSAIDs

The first line of defense to reduce pain and inflammation of spondyloarthritis is to take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. These drugs are available over the counter in products such as ibuprofen or naproxen. However, these NSAIDS often have negative side effects on the gastrointestinal system. The US reports more deaths from prolonged NSAID use than AIDS or cervical cancer. Because of this, always consider a safe natural topical alternative such as Super Blue Stuff OTC or Super White Stuff OTC.

Exercise

Exercise therapy is essential for flexibility and increased range of motion for those with stiff and painful joints, especially those that affect the spine. Exercises that focus on stretching are especially useful for those who suffer from spondyloarthritis.

Physical Therapy

For those who experience moderate to severe limitations in movement, physical therapy may be necessary to increase range of motion and flexibility. Following physical therapy treatment, individuals may continue to improve with home exercise and other remedies.

Foods for Joints

Eating a healthy and balanced diet can help improve joint health and functioning. Foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins C and D, and minerals such as selenium are excellent choices to reduce inflammation and pain in the joints. Other beneficial foods are those that contain quercetinanthocyanins, and foods such as ginger and green tea. Adding fruits and vegetables is a great way to get your joint health nutrition.

Foods to Avoid

Not only can food be beneficial to the body but it can increase inflammation and pain in the joints. If you suffer from painful joint conditions such as spondyloarthritis, avoid or reduce your intake of foods such as shellfish, corn oils, and sugars.

Emu Oil

Applied topically or taken orally, emu oil has been used historically for thousands of years. The origin of use is from the aborigines of Australia. Modern science has shown that emu oil is effective in reducing inflammation when applied topically to the skin (Read the Study!). You can buy Pure Prime Emu Oil from Emu Therapy and try it for yourself!
